According to the New York Times, Vienna’s slightly seedy Gürtel area at the outside edge of the 8th District is newly hot and happening.

I’m pretty sure some of the clubs they mention aren’t so new. In fact, I remember being at some of them mentioned here nearly ten years ago. But then again, back in the day, it really was a dodgy spot. And still, to this day, I can’t walk the Gürtel at night without being asked by the nice women that hang out there, “hast du kein Lust?”

It’s always irritating when the mainstream picks up on places and trends and claims to have discovered them. If these writers are so culturally savvy, why weren’t they writing this kind of article years ago? But in fairness, the article doesn’t actually claim that the places they mention are new. It talks about the changes starting in the mid-90s.

Indeed. In all fairness, at least they aren’t recommending that everyone go to the first district and eat Wienerschnitzel. I give them props, I just think it’s funny to hear the area described…
