homie story #2 / the heat and countermeasures

today is the hottest day of the year so far. i feel like in tunesia and i do not think this will be the peak of weather situation. i think we discussed this before but vienna lacks its famous wind in summer. and for all the coates you see on the streets in winter, you see poeple carrying hand-fans and ice. well, there are some countermeasures against the heat.

the two i use at home:

i love fans. i want all kinds of fans. i guess you also have a fan. i even owned fan-man once, but can’t remember it properly. i use my fans simultanously to create wind streams in the flat. and i also love the sounds of my fans. actually it is one of the best sounds to work, and if the sounds mix, things get cooler and cooler.

the next thing is to darken the windows. you can buy standard blends at shops, you can put your blanket in front of the windows because you don’t use it anyway or you can do it japanese style and fix some pieces of paper on the glasssurface by using little wooden sticks. you have to change them from time to time, but to me it is the most likable method, because you still have all the light. those living in 7th floor may understand.

you mean – you have no elevator and cockroaches – like a friend of mine had in paris (but he had a great few on the seine and when you looked out of his lavatory you saw the tour d’eiffel!)

:) no, no cockroaches luckily. you want to make me rethink to move on, eh?

but i am not used to city with empty flats at every corner. i just enjoy the situation.
