Naschmarkt on Sunday

I’m always fascinated when I visit empty and silent places that usually are super-busy and crowded.
You can experience this feeling walking through the closed booths of the Viennese Naschmarkt on Sundays.
There’s almost nobody around… someone is cleaning… two or three tourists are looking around… a couple of open shops are selling ice creams or coffee to small groups of Naschmarkt aficionados.

But the nice thing is that you can feel that’s just a momentary pause of a yelling, snorting, smelling, moving machine.
The mixed scent of millions of spices is less powerful as usual, but is still present. The wooden booths are wet and clean, ready for a new week of work. The posters, price listings and opening hours are there, to testify an activity that will be operating again soon.

This makes me happy. The incontrovertible flow of people that every day go to the Naschmarkt to buy, sell, eat, talk, walk and whatever is like a metaphor of the running time.

And it’s beautiful sometimes to stop the time.

Tomorrow is Monday, let’s run again.

This shop, now part of the Ghost Town series, could represent the end of the “American Dream” that (part of) Europe is actually experiencing.
It was an American style snack bar (and fast food) on Siebensterngasse.

* Im not sure what a spenglerei is. I guess is something related to buildings construction, but I ask for help from the Austrian friends out there

When a foreigner enter VIE International Airport´s train station is welcomed by this ÖBB information poster, containing useful informations translated in 4 languages:

The italian to english translation of that is the following:

“If you want to go with the urban subway (S-Bahn 7) from the airport to Vienna or from your “Vienna Card”, but to buy and stamp also one tickets for a sub-urban zone (ticket dispenser are in the stations). THANGS! (they wrote “Gracie” instead of “Grazie”)

What do you think? Do they translated that with Google Translator?
