Erik Sumo ~~Live~~ in Vienna - spot the mp3s!
Update: Argh! Missverständniss, es wird nicht live gespielt, sondern es gibt ein DJ Set. Auch schön.
~~Ich fordere alle höflichst dazu auf, ein lautstarkes HURRA auszustossen.~~ Ähem. Ich freu mich seit anfang Sommer auf ein Ding: Erik Sumo, Soloprojekt von Ambrus Tövishazi: Komponist, Keyboarder und Sänger der Gruppe Amorf Ördögök (deren Aufnahmen er im übrigen auch noch produziert). Dieses Projekt ist zwar nicht neu, aber bisweilen gibts nur eine eigene 12″ Platte auf dem deutschen Label Pulver, und live gabs Erik Sumo überhaupt noch nicht. ~~Yes, Premiere!~~

Stilmässig befindet sich dieses überaus angenehme und tanzbare Projekt irgendwo zwischen Soul, Funk und Osteuropäischer Tradition, oder besser, man nimmt einfach seine Eigendefinition her: “surreales Vergnügen mit starken Einflüssen aus musikalischen Genres der letzten Jahrzente”.
Aye. Heute (26.09) ist er im Moulin Rouge zu Gast bei SoulSugar welche um 20 Uhr die Türen öffnen (20h-21h freier Eintritt - 21h-22h 6€ - 22h-23h 7€ - später 9€/10€).
Als kleinen Vorgeschmack darf ich euch zwei sehr feine aus Nullen und Einsen bestehende Tonstücke geben. Enjoy. Hingehen auch.

abstract: sometimes, when all the 20somethings are either in bed or at places you don’t know, there’s always a place where the generation 50+ is still having fun and/or drinking. take a look, keep politics out of discussion and have fun :-)
und plötzlich hatten wir wieder mal das alte wohin-unter-der-woche-in-der-nacht problem. sowas führt dann auch immer zu irgendwelchen bizarren lösungen, aber der gestrige ansatz dürfte doch einer der absurdesten gewesen sein. irgendwann vor mitternacht in’s wuk und bald darauf wieder weg, richtung würstelstand hinter der markthalle. und was sieht man da: “cafe happy day”. irgendwie war ja längst ein besuch in einem urwiener beis’l fällig und alternativen gab’s auch nicht. also rein und an’s tresen. grosse blicke.
man kennt das ja, wenn leute doppelten alters plötzlich in durchgestylten, sich in u-bahn-bögen schmiegenden clubs auftauchen, aber der umgekehrte fall erregt bei weitem mehr aufsehen.
waren das vampire, die sich von unserer jugend nähren wollten? waren sie uns wohlgesonnen? ich weiss es nicht. man schätzte uns mal auf 18, mal auf 30, hängte uns tiroler staatsbürgerschaften an, beharrte darauf, dass wir keine tu-studenten sein könnten solange wir den kurti und den wen-auch-immer nicht kennen. man versprach uns töchter und nahm es gleich wieder zurück (das wäre bei längerer diskussion sicher zum auslöser einer zünftigen barschlägerei geworden). dazwischen wurde unverständliches gesagt, irr gekichert, auf schultern geklopft und bier spendiert (dank dem edlen spender, dessen namen wir glaub ich nie erfahren haben). aber wir waren für circa 2 stunden der absolute mittelpunkt des ladens - und: mehr aufmerksamkeit bekommt man normalerweise nur dort, wo das kleine bier 7 euro kostet und es eine eigene sauna gibt.
also: möglicherweise dient es ja nur zur allgemeinen erheiterung, aber wenn dem so ist, dann war es sicher beidseitig - schliesslich hatten alle spass und das ohne die geringste chance auf vernünftige kommunikation. und möglicherweise sollte man generationenkonfliktbedingt leute des eigenen alters aufsuchen und sich nicht in die quere kommen, aber wer einmal spätnachts lust auf ein letztes bier bekommt, dem sei das “happy day” wärmstens empfohlen.

you guessed absolutly right, that’s the famous Hasnerstrasse, tagged with tire rubber and “wannabe accidents” all over. THE place for illegal streetracers and drunken joyriders. but beware my patrolling army of meelee cockroaches if you wanna test your new brakes beyond 4am…

you guessed right again! that’s me having absolutly no control over the focus features of my new toy. that’s of course no fishing for compliments, just plain weeeeeeee !

Mit dem draußen sitzen in Wien ist das ja so eine Sache – um spätestens 23 Uhr hat der Spaß meistens ein Ende. Zugegebenermaßen bin ich selbst froh, dass beispielsweise das Café Desiré bei mir ums Eck seine Gäste des Nächtens wieder hinein pfeift, bzw. erst gar nicht hinaus lässt. Aber es soll auch Orte in Wien geben von denen man annehmen könnte, dass ihre Nachbarschaft nur aus Sehenswürdigkeiten und Bürogebäuden besteht und dass hier lange draußen sitzen und Musik hören möglich wäre. Weit gefehlt. Letzten Montag hab ich beim Club Pavian im Volksgarten Pavillon aufgelegt, noch vor 12 wurde die Anlage dermaßen runtergedreht, dass man vom benachbarten Tanzcafé übertönt wurde. Wer kann sich an so einem Platz in seiner Nachtruhe gestört fühlen? Die Saurier im Naturhistorischen? Die Bücher in der Nationalbibliothek? Ein ähnliches Szenario gestern bei einer sehr netten Privatparty in der Künstlerhauspassage (vulgo: star/o/mat): Um halb 12 wurden die Glastüren geschlossen, draußen angenehm lau, aber seltsam still, drinnen eher laut und heiß. Aber angeblich war 2 Tage davor um diese Zeit schon die Polizei da. Und apropos freitags in der Künstlerhauspassage: Seit sich herumgesprochen hat, dass der dort ansässige Club Icke Micke das Lieblings-Hangout für BoBos ist und dass diese nebst einer Menge sozialer Kompetenz auch gerne Digitalkameras und teure Mobiltelefone mit sich herum tragen, häufen sich dort die Geschichten von Taschendiebstählen. Also nichts aus den Augen lassen bzw. aus der Hand geben, was einem lieb und teuer ist…

To be honest, i’m not a big fan of the austrian/viennese music scene. Mostly because we have rather relaxing stuff here. Sure, there are some pieces that come near to "blows your head off" - for example Pulsinger & Tunakans "Schwanensee Remixed" ("Swanlake Remixed"). A genious goose-pimpling piece of music when performed with the dancers.
Maybe i haven’t looked for local mindblowing bands enough, but Thalija (german - and in case you wonder, yes they have a j now in their name) is the only viennese band i know of that fulfills these musical desires.
15 (yes fifteen) people, 14 men, 1 woman - 6 guitars, 3 bass-guitars, 2 drums, 1 guitar/keyboard, 1 keyboard, 1 synthesizer/sampler, 1 vocal chord (that is used as another instrument). Their music takes time to develop itself, floats around and then gets from “soft and dreamy” into “heavy and loud but beautiful” in, sometimes, a few seconds.
I wish i had more material for you, i wish i could announce a concert (which i will anyway), however, everything i have are my photos from their concert in april, and some mp3s encoded in a very bad quality, and one unfinished mp3 (german - look for the button with the mp3 link). You might wonder about the topic, but belive me, these recent happenings in Austria reguarding the catholic church are more than disturbing.
In a priests seminar in St.Pölten ( so David was right about the origin of all evil, i apologize ) child pornography was found in large quantities on at least 8 personal computers through out the camp. The priest seminar is currently under investigation and of course under heavy fire by the public and the press.
Bishop Dr. Kurt Krenn, who is responsible for this area is forced to retire, but he’s not even thinking of apologizing at the public for this huge cut into faith of the catholic community, instead he called a published homoerotic incident of 2 priests a “boy escapade”.

Child pornography officially in hands of men, the catholic community sees as role models. If you now might think “well, thats a one time occurance, can happen” let me tell you that 10 years ago there was a similar, even more bizarre case, where a grand cardinal sexually abused underage altar-boys. Cases of homosexual relationships within priesthood are also known, and handled as if it would be normal. Of course, for ethical people it IS normal that men have homosexual relationships, but the church officially sees homosexuality as a disease, which can be “cured” through gods hand, if you get converted to a hetero-Adam again, like the Bible tells you how it should be.
On top of all, i saw a TV interview with Viennas cardinal Schönborn yesterday and he justifies all allegations with “We’re still humans, and therefore we are allowed to make mistakes”. A laughable excuse. I hereby advise everyone doing criminal or illegal actions of any kind to quote the austrian leader of the catholic church on beeing offsides law.
Another sad fact is, that you pay ( not less though ) money to be in the catholic community, or lets say, to be a catholic at all, in austria. So for a second forget the everyday-rant “What the fuck are they building with our taxes here again” and see it as a sad, a very sad matter of fact, that you are paying money to the church, and hereby support child pornography without knowing.
