Cheibani Wague

Its the 15th July 2003. A call to the police: “affray between a black man and a white man.” Cheibani Wague, a nightwatch man of the Afrika-Kulturdorf (African Culture-Village) located in stadtpark got into a fight with his boss. Cheibani had a ‘psychotic impulse’ (impulse caused by a mental dissorder). When the police showed up Cheibani already calmed down a little. According to the police men he screamed strange things such as: “brother moon and sister sun.” “My best friend sleeps with my woman.” “i am a good muslim”. After that he started to become agressive again. One of the police men described it as a “dangerous situation. he was about to explode”. They got worried about Cheibani hurting himself, so they handcuffed him, and forced him to lay down on his stomache on the stretcher of the Ambulance. The emergency physician was about to give Cheibani 5 milligramms Haldol. They tried to get the stretcher inside of the ambulance car, when Cheibani managed to free himseelf and run away. He only ran a few steps, before they caught him again. They pushed him down and stepped on him. Cheibani died due the unprofessional actions of the police men. His death was caused due the lack of oxygen.

Two days ago the court case began.
Until now, all persons that were involved into this are still saying they are innocent. The police blames the emergency people, the emergency people blame the police. The police men (and a police woman that was involved as well) said they never learned the right routine of how to calm down and handcuff someone. They were not aware that standing on someone might cause this person not being able to breath and die.

I am pretty damn sure they wont get what they deserve.
I am pretty damn sure the court calls it an “accident” and everybody goes home and is happy.

I am afraid your prognosis is right. Even though there is a videotape showing a bunch of policemen standing on (!) Wague, who was lying on the floor. And the emergency doctor standing nearby doing nothing. It’s a damn shame.
