most people don’t recognize the omofuma monument at the first glance. and even more people still don’t know who markus omofuma was.

but what’s worst is what it often looks like. (we wrote about this before.)

a reminder: in 1999, marcus omofuma, a refugee, died during his deportion from austria. policemen strapped him to a chair, then sealed his nose and mouth with duct tape - he suffocated. his death was the start of a general discussion about refugee policies, and the ethics of deportion.
