Friendly Sales People

Yesterday I had a wow-experience with a sales guy at the EMI-store on Kärntnerstraße. I usually avoid this store for its premium prices, but some stuff you’ll only get there.
So I ask for a CD (”The sinking of the Titanic” by Gavin Bryars, if you need to know) and he looks for it in the computer and calls the distro and whatnot. All Bryar’s titles have been delisted by Universal, so no way. He might get another one if he orders it.

By sheer accident another customer has ordered that CD two days before and is standing right next to me. The guy from the EMI-store shows the CD to me and starts to tell me how great this is, how it came together, and lots of nice things. Then he sells it to the other guy and he takes a note to order one for me the next day (it was already after 18:00). Thinking “wow, this store sure is expensive, but the service really makes up for it” we leave the building.
A few hundred feet down the Kärntnerstraße we walk into Steffl, ride up to the CD-Store there for sheer curiosity and find the CD I just ordered. A few Euros cheaper than in the EMI store (I told you so…). So I call EMI and say: I am sorry, I have a good news for me and a bad one for you.
Store guy: Did you find it? Really, where?
Me: at the Steffl.
Store guy: Really.
Me: I am sorry, I’ll have to cancel that order.
Store guy: No problem. Most important thing is you got that record.
Me: Thanks. (speechless)

So much for sales people in Vienna.

I had the same problem when I was in Austria. I was able to find a whole new wall plug for my dell at Niedermeyer (They are all over the place).

You might be able to find the international adapter plugs there, but them may only favor people converting into a european plug. You may also have to buy a World Set, for plugs you’ll probably never see. I ended up plugging two of these into each other to be able to plug my US plug into it.

Keep in mind too that your laptom probably has its own voltage converter built in, you simply need a way for the plug to fit in the wall. so don’t get fooled into buying a cunkie and expensive volatage convter.
