ULF
I never fell in love with ULF.
ULF (the Ultra Low Floor tram) is the new generation of trams currently operating in Vienna. It’s the tram with the lowest floor-height of any such vehicle in the world.
But there are some real fans out there…
They collect pictures and compare ULF to other trams.

And here is the official ULF story (sorry, German only).

I hate those ULFs! They are ugly!
The old trams are beautiful, but they’re stupid for handicapped people…
An ULF in the hand of a bad driver is torture for passengers. Acceleration and braking are very abrupt. In fact, it takes a very good driver in order not to be shaken like an olive tree in harvesttime
Also there seems to be much less space in an ULF. There are bottlenecks where you can hardly pass by when someone is standing there.
And there are no seats where you could have some intimacy, like there are in the old trams.
Bad because most ULFs are packed with people.
For these reasons, I strongly dislike ULFs.
What do we have to suffer for the good of physically handicapped people … ;)
ps: one of the trams in the pictures (and I’ve seen it in real life too) has the number 666 written in front.
i’m not very superstitious but I’d rather not ride it. :)
I have been torn and shaken in the old trams for years. A crowded public transport is always an ugly thing wether a bus, a subway or a tram. And intimacy depends on who you are riding with.
On the other hand the ULF is wider on the inside, you can walk through the whole thing, it seats more people and it looks nifty.
