some guidelines to using the subway

one little trip on the U6 and I got the idea, that it might be time again to sample some of the basic do’s and don’ts (well mostly don’ts) for using the underground. Please add as you like:

* Don’t stand in front of the doors as long as there is room somewhere else. And I don’t mean the little space left or right to the doors, I mean right in the middle of the doors. Fuck, dude, is it the view that is so much better there? You are blocking the people trying to get out as well as those trying to get in.
* First out, then in. Seems reasonable enough. The more space left inside, the easier people may get in. Try telling that to teenage zombies.

* If you want to take someone’s seat, who is obviously getting out, wait until he has left the seat completely. Seriously lady, I know that a place to sit is a matter of life and death, but sitting on my lap is out of the question completely.
* if you insist on talking loudly, please chose a subject of general interest or contributing to the enlightment of fellow passengers. Anything cultural (literature, theatre, cinema,…) is acceptable. Comparing horse power of various kinds of BMW products is a grey area. What your daughter experienced at her recent doctor’s appointment is not, especially when it regards STDs.
* Don’t scratch your ass and then sniff your fingers. I am serious. That is good advice for all situations in public, by the way.

The out then in-rule seems to be a “common sense” that most people are lacking. The same problem exists everywhere, and is very frustrating. Really, what is the problem?

The problem is that the problem exists and is very frustrating. What else do you need? Are you a teenage zombie excuser?

Calm down Georg. When Johan wrote “what is the problem?”, it wasn’t a rhetorical question. He meant, “why do people everywhere do this?”, as seems pretty obvious to me.
