River Wien Xtreme

I love my River Wien! 34 kilometers of sheer delight! Especially the 15 kilometers of concrete wonderland within the city.

It’s a dangerous place, because the river is subject to huge variations in flow. During heavy rain the soil in the Vienna forests quickly saturates, resulting in substantial runoff. Thus the flow of the Wien can quickly increase from a creek-like 200 liters per second to 450,000 liters per second!

That’s what I call bruteforce.

The river flows very close to my place near the Wien-Mitte station, and I have often wondered where it goes to…
Incidentally someone once claimed to me that the name of the city comes from the Wienfluss. Any idea whether this is true, or is it the other way round, as I think would be more likely?
