Be Prepared to Hold Your Liquor Pretty Well
I’m still amazed how interesting these days are in terms of live music. I’m convinced some secret organisation wants music nerds to go bankrupt, deprive them from sleep, and ultimately frustrate them due to all the personal circumstances that’d make joining every party impossible. You don’t believe me?
The Donaufestival was only marking the beginning of the exciting times. And surprisingly it’s not the only festival with unusual acts — the Gravity Festival started yesterday at the Planet Music (ugh, please choose a better club next time - and while you’re at it, get a real website) and will feature Subtle, My Robot Friend, Go Die Big City! and Two Gallants among other acts that will keep your body moving. Yay!
That’s all you say? I know, the concerts are probably already over, but what about Calexico and Iron & Wine at the Arena today? (Yes I’m still experiencing what’s actually yesterday.) hey-o-hansen are in town on Tuesday, and will take you to unknown dreamlands at the Rhiz. Or the 11th at the B72, where José Gonzales the fella that got famous due to a wonderful Sony advert is going to play a few soothing tunes? Little bit of Xiu Xiu for some dramatic contrast at the Chelsea on the 14th? Maybe the Violin-Loop-Pop of Final Fantasy fits your taste better - then 19th at the Szene Wien is for you.
Even when looking over to serious music, someone must’ve thought it’s fun to be a sadist. The Konzerthaus has some truly lovely artists waiting to tickle your ears in the next few weeks: Pierre-Laurent Aimard will bless us with his appeareance on the 11th, 12th, and 15th (partially practically sold out — except if you’re willing to spend more than 50 euros on a ticket), and the amazing Kronos Quartet (which is going to perform Flugufrelsarinn by Sigur Rós, and Triple Quartet by Steve Reich) will fill the air with sounds on the 18th.
If you’re still not on the floor desperately begging for more money and time, there are still Blumfeld, Venetian Snares, µ-Ziq, Mocky, Matthew Herbert & Dani Siciliano, The Dresden Dolls, and many many more waiting for you to have a nervous breakdown.
