    In India they call it ‘dandavat parikrama’. You go to a holy place and collect a hundred and eight stones. You then stand on a road that leads all the way around it, fall flat on the ground and place one stone as far as your arms will reach. You then get up an repeat the action until you’ve run out of stones and then walk up to the pile and start from the beginning and keep doing it until you’ve been all the way around. It’s usually done to please some deity, like the aforementioned Avatar of Vienna, so that you get a son, a Toyota, a better job, etc.

    Yes, it takes a long time, and yes, it probably hurts after a while.
