When I came today in the morning to the Arbeitsmarkservice (euphemistic for “Center for Unemployed”) at Hietzinger Kai (13th district) I found on the door of an official in charge this

“Keiner hat das Recht zu gehorchen”. It’s a saying by Hannah Arendt and it means “nobody has the right to obey”.
I was astonished to find this phrase in a center for unemployed!!! Because the unemployed have to do what they are told by the Arbeitsmarktservice, otherwise they lose their money. Nobody has the right to obey.

today is the hottest day of the year so far. i feel like in tunesia and i do not think this will be the peak of weather situation. i think we discussed this before but vienna lacks its famous wind in summer. and for all the coates you see on the streets in winter, you see poeple carrying hand-fans and ice. well, there are some countermeasures against the heat.

the two i use at home:

Some ASCII text about Vienna on a server of Columbia University.
In the 1930s , Vienna had to deal with economic crises and fighting among Austrians . Economically and politically the young republic was on shaky ground . This instability made it easier for German troops to take over Austria in 1938 . On March 12 , 1938 , the German army occupied Austria .
That’s a very strange historical perspective…

It bores me that here in Vienna all the undergroundstations look the same. Take for example Berlin, the stations look very different, especially of the U7. That makes it more funny to travel undergound and it’s easier to remember the different stations by view.
So I searched today a special-looking station and I found 1:

This is in the station U3 Schweglerstra

When I left my mothers place today in the morning she gave me a Pariser Spitz (Parisian Point) for my travel to vienna. A Pariser Spitz is a delicacy of cream and chocolate on a shortbread biscuit and enveloped in chocolate. When I arrived in vienna I wanted to eat it. When I opened the packing I found this brown thing…

…of course it still tasted superlecker.
[If you want to know what a Pariser Spitz normal looks like click here - you also find the recipe, but it's in german]

“This walk is not cleaned if there is snow & is not strewed if there is ice”
I like this text if there are 300 degrees in the shadow like today ;)

I highly recommend the James Cook Collection at the Museum of Ethnology Vienna.
On Cook’s search for the north-west passage he explored the north-west coast of North America for several months in 1778. The objects he collected during his stay on land give information about the native cultures in the first phase of their ‘contact’ with Europeans.

i am on search for flat at the moment. i don’t do it just because i want to see all the beautiful flats in vienna, but because i live in an unisolated roof - beautiful - but hot as sauna in summer and arctic cold in winter.
well, and yesterday i saw a very special place in vienna you might not know or did not see yet, because you can not see it as it is surrounded by huge walls/barbwires etc unless you inspect a direct view flat.
it is the jewish cemetary at w
