Photosmoking

The Viennese Public Transport Authority displays anti-smoking posters in all subway stations.
I do not smoke and I’m not pissed off by smokers… but I’m interested in image processing. The last few times I waited for the subway I kept staring at this poster. Is it photoshop work or did they take two pictures, with and without cigarette? I can’t find a clue.
Maybe someone can help me… uh… staring.

(PS: It’s useless to stare at the JPEG, so stop it. Got to a subway station!)

this is just a semieducated guess, but i think it’s not photoshopped. i reckon the reason why they made him do that wide smirk is because you can easily stick a cigarette into it. this is of course a strange concept for non-smokers, but if you observe “seasoned” smokers who have their hands full, sometimes you see some who can smoke hands-free - if we have to do that (because we are carrying something, for example), we often move the cigarette to the corner of our mouth to make talking easier and avoid getting smoke into our eyes. but once again, this is just my guess.

i do think it’s photoshopped. could anyone post a link to a reasonably high quality scan/photo? then we could superimpose the two versions and have clarity :-)

    it’s not that easy.

the differences are minor … nearly 0%.

“the differences are minor … nearly 0%.”

that’s why i couldn’t find out for sure if i digitized the poster with my crappy 1 megapixel web-cam. (and at the moment i’m not in vienna anyways *g*) but with a good quality image it would be possible. you’re right, it’s obvious from the pic above that they’re almost identical, so either it’s photoshopped or they were taken just seconds apart, with the model freezing his face and a helper yanking the fag out between the first and second shot. (putting it _in_ without moving the lips would be rather hard.)

i also wondered so many times…

there are almost no differences, so it most probably is photoshopped. but otherwise there is such an authentic shadow…
