Herbert Haupt and his coma

Herbert Haupt is an Austrian politician and former party chairman of the right-wing Austrian Freedom Party. He has been Minister of Social Services since 2000 in a coalition government headed by Wolfgang Schüssel. For half a year Haupt was even Vice Chancellor of Austria.
Haupt is notorious for his inability and/or unwillingness to answer journalists’ questions precisely. Also, in the past he has frequently changed his mind from one day to the next about major policy issues.
Now, as the Austrian parliament in Vienna is closed for the summer, Haupt seems to have some idle time to answer even more questions. And he is very precise in one issue: talking about his near-death experiences.
Haupt tells TV Media that he fell into coma twice in his life. The first time he just saw a (*yawn*) black tunnel and a bright light.

… dreamt that he was officer on a warship in the battle of Skagerrak. A british one! He double-checked all the historical facts. And they are right! Praise the Lord!

    daß der haupti zwei mal klinisch tot war, macht ihn ja irgendwie schon fast sympathisch.

    you should not forget to mention why he fell into coma otherwise it would just imply that he did because, you know! otherwise you’d sound ‘péjoratif’, n’ est-ce pas?
